Keeping a Bonsai tree healthy involves some maintenance and care. How much will depend on the type of tree but at a minimum, it will include the following; watering, pruning, adding fertilizer and re-potting. Do not let that scare you though because once you get into a rhythm of what needs to be done is gets easier. Some of these are done once in awhile for example re-potting is usually done once every three years( depending on the specie of the tree)
The best advice that I got about taking care of my trees was to get into a routine. I actually used to keep a journal in which I wrote what I did, when I did it and a general health check of the tree. This made it easier for me to keep track of changes that my tree was going through. Since observation is a big part of taking care of these trees, my notes made it easier for me. This is by no means necessary well it was for me since the running joke in my family was that my super power was the ability to kill off houseplants!
